Deep Energy Retrofits - Construction Planning Package
The purpose of this pilot is to help create and refine a program for deep energy retrofits (DER) that empowers homeowners, DIYers and contractors alike to succeed in retrofitting their homes to drive down the energy costs by 50-100%. We are creating video content as well as optimizing the report generation procedures so that when the program is rolled out it can be as affordable as possible. I believe that education is fundamental to achieving good outcomes, so this will allow all stakeholders in a project to understand why and how to achieve the targets of a DER. The full scope of service will likely not be required for many projects, but in the delivery of the pilot program we will categorize and assess each aspect, as well as add and subtract services to ensure the best outcomes and experience for future participants.

· Energy Advisor Scope
o Clients consultation and meetings

o Pre-construction on-site benchmarking and planning

§ Model the building in design PH, PHPP, and H2K
§ generate an F-280-12 CSA standard report

§ model all shading elements and solar map the energy intensities of the windows
§ build multiple scenarios that will meet the client’s goals and provide detailed energy modelling
§ design crucial details and thermal bridges in thermal energy modelling software
o Initial Design Phase
§ Discuss the modelling scenarios with the client
§ Build detailed 3D models of the most likely renovation pathway and refine the energy impacts
§ In person meeting with clients to discuss the options and how they address the project goals
o Secondary Design Phase
§ Integrated design process meeting with contractor and stakeholders involved
§ Benchmarking of contractor’s past projects
§ Project refinement based on stakeholder input
o Plan production
§ Issue reports, drawings, labels, and details for critical building elements
§ Issue final F-280 load calc for hvac design and procurement
§ Issue strategy outline and requirements for all control layers
§ 3D rendering and mock up building of complex or critical assemblies
o Construction Phase
§ During demolition advising on retention or destruction of envelope elements
§ After demolition a site inspection to obtain more data in the event any elements require change
§ On site training of trade partners, education around building science
§ Work with trades to build full size mock ups of critical details
§ Availability for consulting and advisement throughout the construction phase
§ Mid construction blower door, thermography and fogging to ensure detail execution is correct
o Finalization
§ Final verification of building performance and element installation
